Women In Islam & Black Feminism Speaks

Great events tonight!

It was so amazing to hear from these two amazing women about their religion and experiences. Questions were raised about differences between perceptions of muslim women and their lived experiences, how religion and culture interact and inform each other, and what Muslim feminisms looks like.

Co-Sponsored with Muslim Speakers Bureau

Right after Women In Islam, Black Feminism Speaks was hosted in the LGBTQ Resource Center, where we discussed issues of black women’s activism and how activism comes in many, sometimes surprising, forms. The ways in which creative forms can become a site for activism and how we can support black women artists who use their platforms to further the conversation about social justice were discussed.

Here are some artists that were suggested to support during the discussion:

  • Nicki Minaj
  •  Janelle Monae
  • Ava Duvernay
  • Nicki Giovanni
  • MIA
  • Kanye West
  • Lil Kim
  • Julie Dash

Who do you think should be added to the list?
